There is a description of the wound that killed her brother. The main character has several graphic nightmares in which her brother dies in various ways. There is a reference to a couple in the backseat of a car. After homecoming she remembers kissing him in the car for a extended period of time. She remembers kissing him and when she writes about their fist kiss there is a moment when their tongues touch. She has a boyfriend that she was dating but for the most part of the book, they are no longer a couple. There is a page mentioning "the talk" and the main characters mom asks if she wants a perscription for birth control.
Her mom does get mad at her and she regrets it afterward. She bulls-t twice and then says the f word twice. Toward the end the main character swears, to her mom. Then the language comes from her former friends and that friends brother. He says "you crazy bitch!" His sister responds with a mild insult, which they yell back and fourth for a little while until she says d-k in a way they sounds false and makes them both laugh. The first true language is said by her brother, who has trouble swearing too. It starts out with very minimal language, and the main character talks about how whenever she try's to swear it never sounds right. I had trouble putting it down, I read it in 2 days! There is some language.
